On Tuesday we did a Science experiment about making jelly.
First we put some jelly crystals into a bowl. We could see
that the crystals were a solid. Then we added 2 cups of
hot water. Then we all stirred the jelly until the crystals had dissolved completelyLastly we poured the liquid jelly
into little cups and put them in the fridge to cool and set.

Our experiment showed us that the hot water dissolved
the solid jelly crystals using heat and changed them into
liquidThen by cooling the liquid jelly in the fridge,
the jelly changed back to a solid again... but it looked
different this time. We wondered if we could change
the solid jelly back to a liquid again? That might be
our next Science experiment...
so watch this space!

Great Rata Toru Gymnasts!

At MOOT every Friday we focus on an social skills.
This week our focus was on managing ourselves and
persevering with an activity. Sometimes things can
get a bit tricky and we give up.
The teachers chose Alexandra, Emma, Travis, Dylani
and Oscar for all working really hard at their activities
to get them finished. Well done!!

How to Make Chocolate

We wondered how chocolate is made.
Here is a video to show us how we can make chocolate.

We have been talking about Changing Matter.
We melted some chocolate at school. We found out that
heat can melt chocolate. The chocolate started as a solid
block of chocolate. After heating it over hot water, the
chocolate changed into a liquid. We also found out that
we could change the liquid chocolate back to a solid again
by cooling it. We poured the chocolate into moulds and put
them in the freezer. Then we got to take our 'new' chocolates
home to eat. YUM!!!

Gymnastics

Today at school we had gymnastics.
Rachel and Adele were our instructors and they showed us how to use all the equipment.
First they showed us how the circuit worked and how to land safely when we land.
Here we are balancing, swinging, catching, turning, rolling and climbing our way around the circuits.

Alphablocks

Letterland

For Maths we are talking about measuring length.
We had lots of fun with Mrs Lewis using playdough
mats and making things with playdough that were
shorter, longer or taller.

In Rata Toru we are very lucky to have four new children in our class. A big welcome to Asher, Bryden, Maddy and Sara.
Here they all are reading using the magic pointers and writing
about what exciting things they did in the school holidays.
